Texas Hold'em Strategies

If you have played much poker, you know that Texas Hold'em strategies are substantially different from many other poker game variations. This is largely due to the fact that in Texas Hold'em each player has two hole cards and shares five community cards with all of the other players at the table.

Since a majority of the cards on the table are shared, players can only use their private cards to gain an advantage. The use of these private cards is key to all good Texas Hold'em strategies. For example, if there is a pair of sevens showing in the community hand, everyone at the table has a pair; however, if you have another seven -- or even better, both other sevens -- you factor this into your Texas Hold'em strategies for the hand and know you probably have an advantage over the other people at your table.

Another factor in Texas Hold'em strategies is that by the time you are making your second bid after the flop, you have seen a majority (five sevenths) of the cards. So, unless you believe that you have a good hand, high potential to get a potentially winning hand with the dealing of the remaining cards, or you think that others are likely to fold, you should consider folding by this time.

In a seven-card game like stud, the betting order changes each hand based on the exposed card. However, Texas Hold'em has a standard betting order throughout the game; whenever you are last in betting order, you have an advantage since you have an idea what is going on with your opponents. This is an important thing to consider as you adjust your Texas Hold'em strategies for each hand. Keep in mind when you are in a position of strength and bet accordingly.
