Texas Hold'em Tournaments

One of the most well-known tournament poker games is Texas Hold'em. Tournaments allow players to play multiple games in order to win large prizes. Often, the prizes are cash; other times Texas Hold'em tournaments, known as satellite tournaments, award seats at larger or more prestigious tournaments as the prize. Many of the players who get to the World Series of Poker get their seats by winning satellite Texas Hold'em tournaments.

In addition to the varying types of prizes, there are several different structures for Texas Hold'em tournaments. Some Texas Hold'em tournaments are the elimination type. In these, players make an initial buy-in and then try to be one of the last players standing. Other Texas Hold'em tournaments allow players to purchase more chips if they desire.

Many of the big Texas Hold'em tournaments you hear about are No Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments. This means that players can bet all of their chips at any time; this is not a Texas Hold'em tournament type for the faint of heart. Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments, as their names suggest, put a limit on the maximum amount a player can bet. These are better for less aggressive players and beginners since they offer more structure and mediate the risks of the game a little bit.

One advantage of playing in some of the smaller Texas Hold'em tournaments is that you can play for a long time for a relatively low buy-in. This is good practice for beginners and offers a chance to strategize as well as an opportunity to win some real money.

Whatever kind of Texas Hold'em tournaments you are considering playing in, the key to winning has a lot to do with aggressive play style. Players in Texas Hold'em tournaments don't win if they are not willing to bet boldly or even go all in sometimes.
